Ma première journée complète à Yako / My first full day in Yako

Mercredi 29 Janvier (english below)

Petit déjeuner à 7 :30 avec Clémentine et les locaux, au restaurant «La confiance», soit juste à coté de la SEMUS. Dès 8 :30, j’avais ma rencontre avec Monsieur le Président (c’est comme ça qu’il faut  l’appeler), ainsi que Maurice, Clémentine  et Agi du dept de comptabilité. L’objectif de la matinée était de me présenter ce qu’est la SEMUS, ces domaines d’interventions, ainsi que me préciser mon mandat. Parlant de mandat, Monsieur le Président m’a spécifié vouloir que je refasse le livre des codes de procédures de la SEMUS, mais qu’au préalable, fallait que je fasse une évaluation des forces/Faiblesses/opportunités/menaces (swot  analysis), pour finalement lui faire des recommandations.

Après avoir terminé notre avant midi, Monsieur le Président m’a invité à dîner avec lui, en présence de Clémentine. Nous sommes donc allées chez Helene, là où j’ai souper hier. J’ai pu voir cette fois-ci ce que je mangeais J! Et je me suis commandé une assiette de haricots vert avec carottes. Rien de trop soutenant, mais bon, on y va avec précaution. Fait étonnant, les vautours étaient au pied de notre table attendant qu’on leurs donnent nos restants!

En après-midi, on m’a amené visiter la coopérative maraichère de Ouonon (complexe de conservation de l’oignon). Ceci est un projet de la CECI qui a pour but d’avoir un endroit pour conserver  et entreposer les oignons jusqu’à 6 mois.

Par la suite, nous sommes allées visiter le périmètre maraicher des femmes de Tindila. Ce projet est également un partenariat avec Uniterra/SEMUS. Il s’agit d’une terre de 4 hectares cultivé en entretenu par des femmes. Petites parenthèses ici, les femmes au Burkina Faso, travaillent très fort. En fait, ce sont eux qui soutiennent l’économie. Bien souvent, ce que l’on m’a expliqué, les hommes eux, prennent un verre pendant que les femmes travaillent au champ ou ailleurs. De plus, il n’est pas rare lorsqu’elles travaillent au champ, qu’elles ont leur bébé dans le dos tout en travaillant. La polygamie est bien présente ici, et les hommes utilisent leurs femmes pour les envoyer travailler. La polygamie ici, c’est un peu comme une entreprise, c-a-d, que le mari a plusieurs femmes, comme un entrepreneur aurait plusieurs employés. On me mentionnait, qu’il n’est pas rare que les femmes présentent d’autres femmes à leur mari, car ils n’en peuvent plus, elles sont brulées!  C’est comme si une employé disait à son employeur, «je connais quelqu’un qui serait prêt à travailler, car on n’a beaucoup trop d’ouvrage, on n’arrive plus! Drôle de parallèle, mais c’est quand même ça!

Bien que ses deux endroits étaient qu’à environ 25km chacun de Yako, et les deux à l’opposé, ça pris quasiment 1 heure s’y rendre, à cause de la qualité des routes de terre rouge. Revenu à la SEMUS vers 4 :30, je suis retourné à ma chambre faire un peu de travail. Puis vers 19 :00 je suis allé manger chez Helene. En allant commander, j’ai entendu quelqu’un qui m’appelait, comme il faisait noir, j’ai reconnu la voix de Monsieur le Président , qui m’invitait à souper à sa table avec Helene la propriétaire du restaurant et un autre individu que je ne connaissais pas. Cette fois, ce fût du riz aux tomates J!

My first full day in Yako / My first full day in Yako

Breakfast at 7: 30 with Clementine and locals, at the restaurant "La confiance", just next to the SEMUS. At 8: 30, I had my meeting with Mr. President (that's how we need to call him), and Maurice, Clementine and Agi of accounting dept. The aim of the morning was to introduce me to what are SEMUS areas of intervention, as well as clarify my mandate. Speaking about mandate, Mr. President specified that he wanted me to look at SEMUS HR codes and procedures manual, and wanted me to do an assessment of the strengths / weaknesses / opportunities / threats (SWOT analysis) to finally make him my recommendations.

After completing our morning, Mr. President invited me for lunch in the presence of Clementine. So we went to Helene restaurant, where I have dinner yesterday. This time I was able to see what I was eating J! And I ordered a plate of green beans with carrots. Nothing too heavy, but hey, here we go with caution. Surprisingly, the vultures were at the foot of our table waiting to be given our leftovers!

In the afternoon, I was taken to visit the maraichère cooperative of Ouonon (conservation complex for onions). This is a project to have a place to keep and conserve onions up to 6 months.

Thereafter, we went to visit the perimeter maraicher of women in Tindila. This project is also a partnership with Uniterra / SEMUS. It is a land of 4 hectares cultivated and maintained by women. Small parenthesis here, women in Burkina Faso are working very hard. In fact, they are the ones who support the economy. Often I was told, the men are drinking while the women work in the field or elsewhere. Moreover, it is not uncommon when working in the field, that women have their baby in the back while working. Polygamy is present here, and men use their wives for them to work in the field. Polygamy here is a bit like a business, ie, the husband has several wives, as an entrepreneur would have several employees. It was mentioned to me, it is not uncommon for women to present other women to their husbands because they are tired, they are exausted! It is as if an employee told his employer, "I know someone who would be willing to work because here cause we have way to much work. Funny parallel, but that’s really what it is!

Although both places were only about 25km each from Yako, at two opposite, it took almost one hour to get there because of the quality of red dirt roads. Back to SEMUS around 4: 30, I returned to my room to do some work. Then at 19: 00 I went to eat at Helene place again. While ordering, I heard someone calling me, as it was dark, I recognized the voice of the President, who invited me to dinner at his table with Helene, the owner of the restaurant owner and another individual I did not know. This time it was rice with tomatoes J!
